If you see strange symbols instead of color your program may not have color capability or may be an older version of the program. The newest versions of mIRC and Pirch support color. Global Chat is one program that does not support color in chat.

Sounds are being played but I can't hear them
In order to hear sounds you must have a sound card on your pc and the speakers must be on and the volume turned up sufficiently to hear the sounds. Having done that you need to check to see if your chat program knows where the sound files are stored and that sound is enabled, try searching help for sound, and looking under preferences or options. In Pirch go to options>preferences>media and click enable sounds and save the change. In mIRC go to file>options>sounds and click the box to enable sounds and click ok to save. Note: you can only hear sounds that you have the sound files for on your harddrive. If you do not have a sound file ask the person playing it to dcc send it to you so you can hear it too.
Can I automatically have sound files that I do not have sent to me?
Yes in mIRC you can now click tools>popups>click the remote tab and paste the
following in the window:
on 1:NOSOUND:/msg $chan ! $+ $nick $filename
Click ok to save.
Now every time someone plays a sound you do not have you will automatically request to get
the file. Make sure dcc>options>send is NOT set to autoget file.
No one should EVER have autoget switched on! It makes it too easy for an infected computer to
send you a virus. Only accept DCC transfer from someone you know. Preferably only accept DCC
transfers you have requested or the person has told you he or she is sending you. Safety first!
How do I play sound files to the channel?
Send the command /sound #channelname filename Example: to send the soundfile wb.wav to #trefoil send the command /sound #trefoil wb.wav Your program may have an alias or abbreviation for the sound command so that you do not have to fully type out /sound or type the channel name. Check aliases in your program. In the latest versions of mIRC you can find the sound file you wish to play on your harddrive and drag and drop the filename into the chat window to play it.
